Pat, at first I would like to say thank you very much for being part of this “Gimme 5 Special: Bass Player”! Here we go:
No problem! I will answer the questions with great pleasure.

In which age did the music „catch“ you, and when did you start to play an instrument?
A long time ago... in galaxy far, far away... ;-)

I thought it was a bit late when I started. It was when I bought my first album and I was 14 years old. We never forget the first album. Mine had a full black cover:   Back In Black. I was crazy about that album. The way the bells on   Hells Bells   could sound in my head... I think the vinyl is now almost transparent because I listened to it so many times :-)

After that, I listened to many other bands and especially   Iron Maiden   I discovered in year later. They are the ones who gave me the envy to make more than listen to music... That’s how I started.

Did you choose the bass guitar as your instrument right away or did you check out one or more other ones at first?
I love to tell that story because it makes me always smile when I think about... We were four teenagers in the college... the four ones with their coloured leggings everybody looked at very strangely :-) We also had black t-shirts and Perfecto jackets and above it, a jeans jacket without sleeves with many pins, badges and stickers sewed on it :-) We also all had a big patch on the back with our favourite bands. Four guys then, during an autumn day, we decided to create our own band to make like our idols: touring the world and play gigs!!! The only problem was that no one of us knew how to play any instrument :-) :-)

Then we started the negotiations: “who wants to play what?”. “I want to play the drums… and me, the solo guitar… no, you will play the rhythms and I play the solo”… Never ending discussions :-) BUT nobody spoke about the bass and, as a good boy I was (and still am), and in my MAIDEN period, I agreed to play the bass of course in that still virtual band.

Steve (Harris), if I can tell you something, if I’m bass player today, it’s your fault :-)

How many bass guitars do you own, and which model is your favourite generally?
My humble possessing is five basses. One old thing I could not leave… my first bass on which I built my fingers… One old rotten bass I modified a bit to be able to produce a sound :-) Then, after lot of patience and sparing, I could offer me… (guess what?) a Fender like Steve Harris of course :-) I also have another Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass. I also have 2 Epiphones I use for   Skeptical Minds. Each bass has a proper role (own sound, look, history) and it’s difficult to say what is my favorite one ;-)

What do you think: is it a must for a bass player to have an especially hot sense of rhythm in his/her blood to deliver an ideal job? ;-)
By nature, I’m perfectionist and for me, it’s like a game to try to play with the most precision I can. I can compare the rhythm (in   Skeptical Minds  especially) to a machine, regular and well oiled. Bass is a solid base for the band. Having the sense of rhythm inside you helps a lot. It’s to be one with your music... a very nice sensation.

What is on the plan for you and   Skeptical Minds   in the next weeks/months?
We actually work since some weeks on our new album + comic. That concept was already explored when we released our live DVD @ Metal Female Voices Fest. The DVD was packed with the “Broken Dolls” comic. This time, we want to go deeper in the concept… Surprise to come in few months… :-)

Beside that, some gigs are already announced and we will book more for the autumn. Skeptical Minds   will be still present on the stages in 2013. Watch your back!!!

Beside   Skeptical Minds, I work on a side project that has a special place in my heart because I’m the founder member of it.  We are actually busy to record a single and a video clip. That is the starting point for our second album to be released in 2014.

All that means I’ll will be very busy in 2013 too!!! Oh shit!!! :-)

Thanks for your time. We wish you and your band mates all the best!
Thanx for the interview, hello to all the readers and see you soon!!! Pat
